November 2027 - Six North Korean alleged spies were arrested off the coast of Shimane Prefecture. According to Japanese authorities, sources from within the South Korean intelligence community shared details of "ghost ships" and fishing vessels used by North Koreans to spy on the Japanese. This increase of intelligence sharing has helped Japan identify threats posed by North Korea.
Kim Jong Un has publicly condemned these arrests and has called for the release of his nationals.
This arrest also follows after increased North Korean provocations against Japan. Only a few months prior, a North Korean airborne drone (Heolikein-1) collided with a Japanese fighter jet after entering Japanese airspace. The pilot had to eject while the drone crashed into the sea.
