Communiqué from the French Government

Paris, February 24, 2024

The French government reaffirms NATO unity against Russian aggression and emphasizes the importance of all members upholding this unity

In light of recent events and escalating tensions, the French government wishes to reaffirm its steadfast commitment to the principles of unity and solidarity within the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO). NATO stands as a bulwark against aggression and destabilizing actions, particularly in the face of Russian aggression.

France strongly condemns any acts of aggression or coercion by the Russian Federation that threatens the sovereignty, territorial integrity, and security of NATO member states and partners. It is imperative that the international community, and specifically NATO, stands united in the face of such threats.

Unity within NATO is not merely a symbolic gesture; it is a fundamental necessity in safeguarding the peace and security of our region and beyond. It is incumbent upon all NATO members to uphold this unity and to demonstrate their unwavering commitment to the collective defense and security of the alliance.

The French government calls on all NATO members to remain vigilant and resolute in the face of Russian aggression, and to stand together in support of international law, democratic values, and the rules-based international order. Now, more than ever, solidarity within NATO is paramount.

France reaffirms its readiness to work closely with its NATO allies to address common security challenges, strengthen deterrence, and promote stability in the Euro-Atlantic area. Together, we will continue to defend our shared values and interests, and ensure a peaceful and secure future for all.
