Italy Remains Committed to NATO, EU, and Peace in the Aegean

STATEMENT FROM PRIME MINISTER GIORGIA MELONI

Earlier today, Italy was present at the first round of direct talks between Greece and Turkey. The meeting, which was agreed upon by both parties prior to occurring and cleared with our fellow allies UK, France, and Germany, focused on a proposal to resolve the issue of Lesbos.

Both Turkey and Greece expressed shared interests in the island's security, but there were other areas of disagreement and the talks ended inconclusively. Italy remains an enthusiastic partner to both of our NATO allies as they attempt to resolve this dispute peacefully.
