Italy and Turkey wish to communicate their shared commitment to de-escalation in the Aegean. Talk of EU sanctions against a NATO state is unproductive at this time. Furthermore, all NATO nations should avoid escalating the situation militarily. Finally, Greece should refrain from additional militarization of the Aegean islands.

We are grateful to Turkey for its past efforts and continued commitment to resolving this issue diplomatically.
