Kim Jong Un Announces New Yearly Military Wargames

Named the HYUNMOO 2028 army field maneuvers, these unprecedented field exercises conducted by the North Korean Army are the beginning of a new initiative by Kim Jong Un to improve the institutional knowhow and skill of the Korean People’s Army's warfighting skills. The focus of HYUNMOO 2028 is to practice asymmetrical military capabilities. Light infantry units conduct extensive field maneuvers without reliance on fuel-guzzling armored vehicles. Cheap drones are being used as a means of supporting ground assault teams from the air, both as FPV munitions, drop drones, and intelligence/surveillance/reconnaissance assets.

The ground and air maneuver elements were supported by simulated artillery fires, under the supervision of referees.

Supreme Leader Kim Jong Un attended the opening ceremony of the wargames. 15-year-old Kim Ju-ae, Kim Jong Un’s daughter, made an appearance alongside and was saluted by the participating forces.

The practical field exercises were accompanied by classroom indoctrination throughout, during rest days interspersed throughout the two-week-long exercises.
