During anti-government protests in Sofia, Bulgaria last year, at least 60 activists were killed by pro-Revival Party and government security forces. In a recent press statement, Polish intelligence chiefs claimed that Russian Spetznas were covertly integrated with the government forces including squads of snipers. If true, the actions are troublingly reminiscent of similar actions in Kyiv's Maidan Square, in 2014. The grave implications for Russian paramilitary activity in a NATO member-state remain unknown.
