Statement by Prime Minister Sato on the ​​Death of South Korean Defense Minister Kim Yom Yom

I am stunned, outraged, and deeply saddened by the news that my friend Kim Yom Yom, Defense Minister of South Korea, has died in a mysterious accident. This is a tragedy for South Korea and for all who knew him. He was a champion of the Alliance between our nations and the friendship between our people. Above all, he cared deeply about regional security and dedicated his life to their service. He was a champion of the alliance during the Kyushu Beetle Ferry incident in December 2027. While there are many details that we do not yet know, we know that violent attacks are never acceptable. Japan stands with the Republic of Korea in this moment of grief. I send my deepest condolences to his family.
